Weston Power Choice Aggregation Program
The Town of Weston is developing a Community Choice Aggregation (CCA) program, called Weston Power Choice.
Weston Power Choice will allow the Town to purchase electricity supply in bulk for Weston residents and small businesses that are enrolled in Eversource’s Basic Service. A key feature of the program is the integration of additional renewable energy into the power supply.
Weston’s program was initiated by the December 3, 2019 Special Town Meeting vote, which authorized the Select Board to pursue CCA.
Weston Power Choice participants will receive more choices in their energy production supplier, a reduction of their carbon footprint, greater price stability, and the potential for lower electricity supply rates (savings cannot be guaranteed). The program will only change the supply price and the supplier name on participants’ electricity bills. The supply price will be locked in for a longer period, typically 2-3 years, compared with every six months for Eversource residential and small business customers. The video to the right offers a brief overview.
Weston Power Choice is an “opt-out” program as required under Massachusetts law and all Weston Eversource Basic Service customers will be automatically enrolled. Residents who have contracted their own electricity supply independently will not be automatically enrolled but are welcome to join Weston Power Choice at any time.
Weston's Aggregation Plan
Implementing a municipal electricity aggregation program like Weston Power Choice is a regulated process that is overseen by the Massachusetts Department of Energy Resources (DOER) and the Massachusetts Department of Public Utilities (DPU). The following documents were sent to DPU for review and approval.
- Aggregation Plan and Supporting Documents(PDF) - includes education and outreach plan
- Template of the Electricity Service Agreement (PDF)
