What is the Kids Reading Program?

It’s simply a way to make reading fun over the summer!  There are two ways to keep track of your reading.

Once you register and start your Online Reading Log, the first option is to enter each book you read by title and author with a simple review.  The second option is to complete Reading Challenges that pop up over the summer.  And of course, you can do both!

Enter your reading starting June 14th; Reading Challenges start popping up on June 18th.

Reading Challenges:

Reading Challenges are a second way to participate!  Click on the “Challenges” section of your Online Reading Log.  Some challenges are to write book reviews, some are to complete reading or library-related tasks.  Some are just for fun! New Challenges will pop up throughout the summer.  Each time you complete a Reading or Activity Challenge, you will get an Award.

For every Award you earn, you also get a raffle ticket for a chance to win one of our Summer Reading Raffle Prizes! These are in the Display Case at the library.  Decide which prize or prizes you would like to win, and put your tickets towards that.  You must have completed your Reading Challenge or entered real book titles and reviews to be eligible for weekly prizes and raffle tickets.  We do look at all the entries!

Every Friday, the names of everyone who received an award point for entering five books or completing a challenge that week are entered in a weekly prize drawing. Winners will be notified by email.

We also have a Summer Reading Raffle!   Every time Readers earn an award point they get a Raffle Ticket,  which can be put towards the Summer Reading Raffle prizes.  These bigger prizes will be on display in the Library.  At the end of the Summer Reading Program, we will draw the names of the winners.

Everyone who participated in the program can join us the last week of August for a Summer Reading Celebration!

Vacation Crafts

Vacation Crafts will be available every week.  Although the Craft Room will not be open this summer, we will be handing out Craft Kits at the Children’s Desk.  Stop by and pick one up starting June 28th.

Programs for Kids:

Look for special performances for all ages throughout July and August!  Get a calendar at the desk or check our Event Calendar (at so you don't miss our special Summer Activities!  Look for library storytimes, animal shows, puppet shows, art and craft workshops, and other special programs throughout July and August.

Entering Your Books Read:

In the Online Reading Log, enter the title and author of each book read.  The database has some books already available, so if you see the cover of your book, click on it to automatically fill out the form.  If there is no picture of the cover, please write down the full title and the author in the “Title” field.  It is very easy to over-click!  If you enter a book more than once, we will delete multiple entries.   Add a short review.  For every five books you complete, you will get to enter the weekly Summer Reading prize drawing.
