Lock Box Program
The Weston Fire Department's Lock Box Program allows emergency responders to get inside your house or business without causing any damage. Perhaps you are unable to unlock the door for the ambulance crew due to illness or injury, or perhaps you’re away on vacation and your fire alarm system has been activated. These are two excellent reasons to provide the Fire Department with a way to get inside your house or business quickly -- and without causing any damage.
When the Fire Department is called to a medical emergency or a fire alarm, and the door is locked, access to the building is sometimes a serious problem. It would be in everyone’s best interest for emergency personnel to gain access to the building as quickly and easily as possible and without causing any damage. If keys were hidden outside, there would be absolutely no security for them and the Fire Department might not be able to locate them even if the location were know. Keys left with friends and neighbors are sometimes unavailable.
The Lock Box Program is a means to provide a reasonable degree of security for house keys while keeping them available for emergency crews. Keys for the building may be placed in high security metal boxes, attached to the building itself. This program would allow Weston Firefighters to access the keys to your house or business. If this makes you uncomfortable at all, this program is probably not for you.
Lock boxes for the Weston Fire Department's program are sold by two companies, the Knox Company and Kidde. Determining the proper size and model of the box is very important. Please contact The Weston Fire Department at 781-786-6101 for information about the proper model to order. Remember that an authorized Weston Fire Department signature is required on the order form to purchase the box.
Lock Boxes for Home Use
The Department has made special arrangements with the Knox Company and Kidde for the purchase of metal “residential lock boxes” that have high security access available only to the Weston Fire Department. These boxes can be purchased and the Fire Department will install them free of charge. Please call the station for these box prices.
The Fire Department receives no money from the purchase of the box and installation of the box is free, as a public safety service to residents.
If you have any questions about the lock box program, please contact the Weston Fire Department at 781-786-6101.
