Friends of the Council on Aging

Who Are We?

The Friends of Weston’s Council on Aging is a 509(a)(3), non-profit organization, that financially supports COA programs not covered by the town budget, subsidizes older adult transportation, and provides individual Weston seniors with emergency financial needs. This all volunteer organization raises funds through the generous donations of townspeople received from mailings and unsolicited donations. All funds are used to enhance and support the lives of the growing population of Weston older adults

What Do We Do?

The Friends of Weston’s Council on Aging has a two-fold mission in support of Weston older adults, a group that grew over 14% in 2016:

Maintaining Quality of Life - Studies have shown that a varied and stimulating lifestyle helps older adults maintain health and mental alertness. The FCOA subsidizes COA programs that enrich the quality of life for all Weston older adults, such as:

  • Subsidized taxi service
  • Monthly newsletters to inform seniors of health lectures, cultural events, museum trips, etc.
  • The volunteer coordinator who manages the 200 volunteers that make the COA programs successful
  • Food pantry
  • Maintenance of the COA lift-assist van, which transports seniors to supermarkets, shopping centers and cultural events (The FCOA provided primary funds for the purchase of the Weston Shuttle.)

Emergency Support  - The FCOA provides financial support to individuals in the case of extraordinary expenses and emergencies, after other resources have been exhausted.

Examples include:

  • Overdue winter heating or snow removal expenses in an especially bad winter
  • Emergency medical assistance not covered by insurance
