Forestry Walk
Saturday, January 9, 2021
Join Land’s Sake and the Conservation Commission's Associate Member Brian Donahue on a walk to learn about the Town's Forest Management Program and goals. Since 1981, Land's Sake has been harvesting firewood from Weston's town forests. This winter, Land's Sake will be returning to the Ogilvie Town Forest, where wood was last cut in the 1990s. The goals of the forest management program are to develop a healthy timber base, diversify wildlife habitat, and protect water and soil resources. The production and sale of firewood is a useful byproduct of this process and helps to fund Land's Sakes' forest management initiatives. Land's Sake will discuss its forest management philosophy, provide an overview of the silvicultural practices that are being used, and discuss the results of the forestry work throughout town.
