February Book Discussion Groups

Place a hold- get books faster!

Did you know that placing a hold on an item, aka ordering a book from another library, helps us know what Weston patrons want AND gets the book to you faster?

When placing holds on any item, new or otherwise, Weston patrons are given priority to Weston items. An example of this would be if "Where the Crawdads Sing" has 100 holds and all copies are checked out throughout the Minuteman Library Network, including all 5 of Weston's copies. If a Weston patron who has this item on hold and is # 65 on the list for all Minuteman copies, they are given priority to receive a Weston copy as soon as it becomes available, thus not needing to wait for the 65th copy.

You can even place holds long before a book comes out. As soon as we have ordered the item (usually months in advance), you can place a hold! You can place holds using our online catalog or by calling our Reference Desk at 781-786-6165.

Something for everyone

PJ Drive

Donate to the MBLC Bruins PJ Drive

The Weston Public Library has teamed up with the Boston Bruins to participate in the 13th annual Boston Bruins PJ Drive to benefit Department of Children and Families’ (DCF) Wonderfund and Cradles to Crayons.

The PJ Drive’s goal is to collect 13,000 pairs of new pajamas.  Many of the pajamas donated go to local DCF offices in the area in which they were collected, benefitting local kids and teens.

The Boston Bruins PJ Drive runs from February 1 through March 15, 2020. The library will be collecting new pairs of pajamas for babies, children and teens.

The Massachusetts Board of Library Commissioners works with the Boston Bruins to coordinate library participation in the drive.  Libraries from around the state use the Massachusetts Library System’s delivery service, typically used to send books and other library materials, to send their PJs to area collection locations which increases libraries’ ability to participate in the drive.

Please consider bringing in a new pair of PJ's to help local kids and teens in need.

New England's General Stores Author Talk

In talking about New England's General Stores: Exploring an American Classic, broadcast journalist Ted Reinstein shares the rich and colorful history of this iconic institution, how they figured in the rise of early American commerce, why they began to fade, and why--like another New England icon, the diner--they have begun to come back and even be re-invented and re-imagined for a new era.

Told with anecdotes from a variety of local landmark stores across the region, the presentation is accompanied by the award-winning photography of Art Donahue.
This even is free and open to the public.
