Art Appreciation: Women Artists Up to the 20th Century

Tuesday, January 25, 10:00-11:00 on Zoom

The museum comes to you in this engaging presentation by Jane Blair, founder of ArtMatters, an art awareness and education organization. Women artists, capable of the art of creation as well as the creation of art, have historically proved threatening to the dominant male establishment. There are many examples of how women have flourished and failed, been celebrated or crushed, but in almost every instance, needing to be better than their male competitors, to be taken seriously. Learn about the women who have defied convention to make art from the Renaissance through the 19th century. Call the COA at 781-786-6280 to register. Upcoming Art Appreciation Presentations: Women Artists of the 20th Century: Tuesday, February 22, 10:00-11:00 Chagall: Tuesday, March 29, 10:00-11:00 Homer: Tuesday, April 26, 10:00-11:00 Cezanne: Tuesday, May 31, 10:00-11:00

Part 2: Crete and Santorini

Wednesday, January 26, 1:00-2:15pm on Zoom

Crete is the largest and most populous of the Greek islands with thousands of years of culture and history. You’ll find some of the most significant attractions in Greece here, including famous archaeological sites such as the Minoan palace of Knossos as well as castles erected by Venetians and Byzantines. You can’t visit the Isles without a stop in Santorini, one of the most photographed islands in the world where white-washed cubiform houses cling to cliffs above an underwater caldera (volcanic crater) and overlook a sparkling blue-green sea. The cable car ride up the cliff to Fira is in itself an experience – although if you prefer, you could go by mule! Call the COA at 781-786-6280 to register. You do not need to attend both sessions.
If you missed it, check out last week's session on Mykonos and Rhodes
