January Reflections & February Featured Programs

January Reflections

Brrr… the mild weather turned cold this month and we were prepared! Throughout the month of January, we handed out 65 chef kits with all of the ingredients to make minestrone soup and 75 winter warmer mugs, filled with Ghiradelli hot chocolate, tea, honey jars, biscotti, Lindt chocolates, and snowflake ornaments made by local Girl Scouts.
Those willing to venture out to the COA enjoyed our monthly coffee & conversation, a trip to the MFA’s Fabric of a Nation America Quilt Stories Exhibition, Ukulele group, and Project Linus.

With the cold temperatures, spiking COVID cases after the holidays, and a lineup of fantastic virtual programs, we saw record attendance at our virtual programs this month, including historian Richard Bell’s presentation on the 1783 Treaty of Paris: America’s Future on the Brink, Nutrition in 2022, Virtual Trip to the Greek Isles, a hot discussion on the Arctic, and genitourinary programs on the prostate & female incontinence.

“It is really cold this winter weekend. Great day to stay indoors, watch an NFL playoff game, and settle in for a nice drink. This was the best cocoa mix I’ve ever had… my wife saw me with my hot cocoa and made herself a cup too. Thank you for such a nice treat.”

“Thank you for my chef kit! Wow, it is delicious!  It was so fun to make something and have everything I needed.  You made it so easy!  I loved it.”

“Your soup kit was your best idea yet! I love to cook soups and it was a treat to get all the ingredients, with the recipe, plus that wonderful insulated bag with the COA logo. You do so many nice things for the senior population. I just wanted to let you know how much you are appreciated. Thank you for being there and working s hard, especially in these trying times of Covid.”
