February Reflections

Despite fewer days that the month of February brings each year, the COA ramped up our offerings this month to keep everyone busy… and sane. Whether folks were hibernating from the cold or eager to see other people in person, we packed a lot into this short month!

This month, we were excited to continue our collaboration with Regis College and welcome graduate students Sydney and Keriann, who started an 8-week health and wellness series. Sydney and Keriann will continue to lead us in interactive and thought provoking group sessions each week through April 7. We also welcomed back opera singer Ron Williams, and our AARP Income Tax program. Did you read about us in the Weston Owl this month, where we were given a shoutout for our Life Transition Binder workshop - an opportunity to create a collection of all your important information in one place so your family could step in if you ever need assistance.

Whether Covid or the cold, those who didn't want to leave the house had plenty to do on Zoom! We kicked off the month with record-breaking attendance at our Baron Von Steuben and the Valley Forge Winter presentation with historian Richard Bell. Those curious (or confused) by crypto and blockchain were able to satiate their curiosity with a presentation by 1989 Weston High School graduate and CEO of Flipside Crypto, Dave Balter.

To compliment our incredible travel programs, for the first time we offered a live walking tour of Auckland's Harbourside, where a local your guide walked us along the water to sight-see and attendees witnessed the first sunrise of the day.

For those non-history, business, or travelling folks, there were presentations on Women Artists of the 20th Century, Abolition to Civil Rights in Music, and a program on knee and hip arthritis exercises.

The Women's Community League of Weston hosted a wonderful Valentine's Day celebration. The Community Center Great Room was decorated elaborately with red and pink balloons and valentines décor galore! Tea sandwiches, chocolate covered strawberries, and a variety of Italian pastries were enjoyed while guitarist Chris Carter played love songs on the guitar. What’s Valentine’s Day with out chocolate? WCL set up a “candy bar” so that attendees could select their favorite chocolates and candies and make a to-go bag to enjoy later!

March Featured Programs

In like a lion... out like a lamb..

The lion...
March can be a gloomy time for many, with the promise of spring on the horizon but the persistence of the cold, cloudy weather of winter. For those dealing with grief, we are offering a program this month to help you understand the grieving process and teach you ways to manage grief and find strength towards healing.

The lamb...
Irish or Irish for the day… celebrate St. Patrick’s Day with a traditional corned beef and cabbage feast at the COA! Ring in spring with a seed packet workshop, coffee & conversation, and the return of our trail walks.

Try something new like virtual "X golf", take a live walking tour of downtown Milan, or learn about the "Poet", Marc Chagall, who merged the traditional images of his native Russian-Jewish culture with the modern styles of Cubism and Fauvism.

All ages are welcome to join us for programs and events. Contact the COA for more information or to register, 781-786-6280. For date and details, visit our website.
